چکیده

Interruption of the aortic arch is an uncommon malformation in which there is no direct continuity between the aortic arch and the descending aorta, the latter arising through a patent ductus arteriosus. Three types are described, depending upon the site of interruption in relation to the arch vessels. A large ventricular septal defect is present in 94% of cases. It is to be distinguished from aortic arch atresia, which should be regarded as a severe form of preductal coarctation in which the luminal continuity of the arch and descending aorta is absent. Three cases are described: the first demonstrates the natural outcome of the uncorrected anomaly with progression to Eisenmenger's syndrome; the second illustrates the feasibility of surgical treatment in the neonate; the third is an example of total correction of aortic arch interruption with the

Complete interruption of aortic arch, without persistent ductus arteriosus, in an adult.

A case of complete interruption of the aortic arch in an adult is presented and the previous 8 reported cases are reviewed. Obliteration of the ductus is a feature of these cases, in contrast to the more common variety found in early childhood. Comments are made on the clinical distinction between the adult type of complete interruption of the aortic arch and coarctation of the aorta.

The clinical and laboratory findings of interruption of the aortic arch are described. These infants present with a clinical picture similar to preductal coarctation of the aorta. Prompt recognition and diagnosis of interruption of the aortic arch is important, since palliative and corrective operative procedures are currently available. Wit...

A LOCALIZED NARROWING of the IAJL aorta at or distal to the ductus arteriosus (coaretation of the adult type) is one of the most comnlon congenital nmalformations of the great vessels. A narrowing of the aorta proximal to a patent ductus arteriosus (coaretation of the infantile type) is less commoni, while complete interruption of the aorta proximal to the ductus is quite rare, and interruption...

Incidental Finding of Interrupted Aortic Arch in an Asymptomatic Adult: To Treat or Not to Treat?

Interrupted aortic arch (IAA) is a congenital anomaly that affects approximately 3 per million live-births. Adult presentation of complete aortic interruption is extremely rare. Surgical repair of IAA is the mainstay of treatment, however beneficial effects of intervention in the adult population are still debated. Late complications of surgical or percutaneous procedures have to be considered ...
